Rising Sun Motor Lodge

Located 6 1/2 miles (11km) from St. Mary, just off Going-to-the-Sun Road, the Rising Sun consists of a complex made up of a restaurant, a motor inn, cottages, a camp store, a gift shop, and a service station. The basic motel rooms are just that--basic but uninspiring motel rooms--that are completely adequate for a good night's rest and in an excellent location for those who want to explore the eastern side of the park from Going-to-the-Sun Road. The cottages (you rent half of a duplex) are more interesting, but a bit on the rustic side. All units here are no-smoking.

In keeping with the era in which the Motor Inn was built

Televisions, in-room telephones, air conditioning, elevator, in-room coffee makers and mini-refrigerators are not available.
Iron, ironing board, hair dryers are available upon request from the front desk.
Pets are not allowed
Pay telephones are located by the Camp Store
A limited number of handicap accessible rooms are available and are booked based on space and availability

Hotel Facilities

All rooms and facilities are non-smoking.
Two Dog Flats Grill is located in the main registration building, serving classic Montana fare with a Tex-Mex influence. This casual restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and is open from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Enjoy a frosty pint of Montana micro-brew beer or glass of wine during lunch and dinner. The restaurant seats on a first come first served basis and does not accept reservations.

Casual attire is required so come and enjoy our Mountain/Tex-Mex cuisine. Children’s menus and box lunches available.

Gift Shop and Camp Store
Two shopping choices are available at this location on the Going-to-the-Sun Road. In the gift shop, you will find Native American jewelry and crafts, as well as several popular lines of souvenir merchandise.

The camp store carries groceries, beer and wine, camping, fishing and hiking items, as well as many Glacier National Park gifts and souvenirs.

Description of Rooms

The Motor Inn is located on the hillside overlooking the complex and features motel-style accommodations with outside room access.

Store Motel rooms are motel-style accommodations. The rooms are located in the same building as the Camp Store, have a centralized hallway and most have wood floors.

Cottage rooms are rustic yet comfortable, duplex-style accommodations located along the winding roadway through the complex. Parking is limited in front of cottages but only for one vehicle.
Rooms do not have views of St. Mary Lake

	Glacier National Park is located in the northwest corner of Montana, just north of Columbia Falls. The park encompasses more than one million acres and is home to grizzly bear, moose, elk, along with 63 varieties of wild mammals. While most of the roads in Glacier National Park are closed off during the winter, this provides miles and miles of tracks for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Visitors are seldom around in the dead of winter, so the muffled hush of the snow covered woods is especially enticing and serene. A ski or snowshoe trip along the Going-to-the-Sun Road, which is one of the most scenic roads in North America, is a great option, according to park rangers. The road is closed to cars from September or October until snowmelt, usually in June. Several short hiking trails branch off from the road, which would be excellent for snowshoeing or skiing in the winter season. Once you have your gear, head up to Glacier National Park for an exciting adventure. Guided snowshoe trips are available, led by a park naturalist, and are highly recommended. If you are looking for an informative tour, snowshoeing is an easy way to explore the winter wonderland of this unique park. Snowshoeing will provide even the novice an effortless activity so your senses are more in tune with your environment and your guide's knowledge on the history, wildlife, geology, and biology of this precious ecosystem.
